B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the year 1968.

The UG programme has a sanctioned strength of 120 students under both government-aided and self-supporting streams. The PG programmes are under the self-supporting scheme. The department has a dynamic and vibrant faculty specializing in various fields of Electronics and Communication Engineering with proven research experience in niche areas. The department has produced 20 doctorates in the area of signal processing, wireless communication, networking, wireless sensor networks, image processing, VLSI design, and embedded systems. The faculty members of the department have undertaken innovative projects from leading agencies such as AICTE, UGC, and DST.

Professor & Head of the Department

Dr. M. Poongothai

M.E., Ph.D.

Dr.M.Poongothai completed her B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Tamilnadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore in the year 1998. She completed her M.E (Applied Electronics) at Coimbatore Institute of Technology in the year 2007. She completed her Ph.D (Information and Communication Engineering) under Anna University, Chennai. She is working as Senior Grade Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore from 2000 to till date. She has 17 years of teaching experience and her research interests include Computer Architecture, Microprocessors and Real-Time Embedded Systems. She has published 24 papers in national and international journals and conferences. She has organized and conducted various national conferences and workshops in the fields of Embedded Systems.

Dr. M.Poongothai’s research interests are in Real-time, Embedded, and Cyber physical systems, which increasingly affect our daily lives. The goal of her research is to ensure and improve the correctness, safety, timeliness and responsibility of these systems and design Real-time Scheduling algorithms for multiprocessor system for better performance.

TECHNOVA Hackathon ’26

TECHNOVA Hackathon ’26, a National Level Technical Hackathon organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), in association with the ECE Association, IE(I) Students’ Chapter, IETE Students’ Forum, IEEE STB, and the Institution’s Innovation Council. The hackathon witnessed remarkable participation and innovation, bringing together talented students from across the nation to solve real-world challenges and showcase their technical expertise.

The Coligo AI Design Challenge 2025

The Coligo AI Design Challenge 2025, conducted from March 2025 to December 2025, was a remarkable journey of innovation, industry exposure, and hands-on AI development. Organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), the challenge enabled students to work on real industrial problem statements, perform ground-level industry analysis, and develop solutions using the Coligo AI platform.This initiative was made impactful through the continuous technical guidance and mentorship of Melvin Francis, Technical Marketing Manager, BE.services GmbH, who closely supported the students throughout their development phases. We sincerely thank Dimitri Philippe CEO of the BE.services GmbH for their valuable collaboration with the DEPARTMENT OF ECE in making this industry-academia initiative a success.

ADS-B Flight Tracker Inauguration

The Department of ECE, Coimbatore Institute of Technology inaugurated the “ADS-B Flight Tracker – Real-Time Aircraft Surveillance and Tracking using ADS-B Technology” on 19 December 2025, jointly organized by the IoT Centre and 5G Innovation Centre. The project was inaugurated by Thiru. R. Santossh, Managing Trustee & Chairman, CIT Institutions. We sincerely thank our Chairman for his visionary leadership and continued support in fostering innovation and student-driven research at CIT. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the Management of CIT and Dr. A. Rajeswari, Principal, CIT, for their unwavering encouragement and guidance. Special thanks to Mr. Sethu Rathinam, esteemed CIT ECE Alumnus (Class of 1979), for funding and mentoring this initiative.

MoU Signed with Agrowvitz Innovations Pvt. Ltd.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agrowvitz Innovations Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. This collaboration aims to strengthen the industry–academia partnership in areas such as IoT, Embedded Systems, AI/GenAI, precision agriculture, and applied research, enabling hands-on learning, joint R&D, internships, and real-world problem solving for students and faculty. The MoU marks a significant step toward fostering innovation, skill development, and technology-driven solutions for sustainable agriculture. We sincerely thank our Proud Alumnus Mr. Bharathi Athinarayanan and Mr. Rajender Satyanarayana, Directors of Agrowvitz Innovations Pvt. Ltd., for their valuable support and collaboration. A special thanks to Mr. Bharathi Athinarayanan for generously providing a Hydroponics Tower, which will support research activities for our third-year students, enabling them to explore innovative solutions in smart and sustainable agriculture.
