About Library and Committee

  • Established in 1956, the Library at Coimbatore Institute of Technology serves as a cornerstone of the campus, situated conveniently adjacent to the main building. Spanning a generous 13,381 square feet (1,243 square meters), the facility is dedicated to delivering high-quality information services and providing a gateway to both physical and digital resources.
  • The primary goal of the CIT library is to cater to the diverse academic and research requirements of the entire institute community by ensuring seamless access to scholarly materials. To achieve this, the library utilizes a fully computerized system integrated with RFID technology and offers an extensive collection that includes traditional books, printed journals, e-journals, online databases, CD-ROMs, and multimedia resources. Furthermore, the library operates under an "Open Access System," allowing users to browse the collections freely and efficiently.
  • The strategic direction and operational oversight of the library are managed by a dedicated Library Committee. This group is composed of the Principal, the Librarian, along with various faculty representatives and student members. The committee holds regular meetings to evaluate the library's current performance and deliberate on necessary enhancements or service developments to ensure the facility continues to meet the evolving needs of its users

User Orientation

  • To ensure that new members can fully utilize the wealth of resources available, the library conducts a mandatory "User Orientation" program annually.
  • These sessions are specifically designed for incoming first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing them with a comprehensive introduction to the various facilities, specialized services, and digital tools offered by the library.

Library Membership

  • The library extends its membership privileges to the entire CIT family.
  • This includes all members of the teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the full student body, encompassing undergraduate and postgraduate students alongside regular research scholars.
