Quality Improvement Programme (QIP)

Overview 

The Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) is a national initiative introduced by the Government of India in 1970 with the objective of strengthening the academic and research capabilities of faculty members working in degree-level technical institutions. The programme is aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness, research competence, and overall professional growth in engineering education.

Objectives of the Programme

The QIP framework is structured around three key dimensions of faculty development :  

Academic Advancement

Providing opportunities for engineering faculty to pursue higher qualifications through Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes.

Faculty Skill Upgradation

Organizing short-term training programmes and refresher courses at identified QIP centres to support continuous professional development. 

Teaching–Learning Innovation

Promoting curriculum enrichment and pedagogical improvement through activities coordinated by the Curriculum Development (CD) Cell, with a focus on modern teaching practices and improved learning outcomes. 

QIP at Coimbatore Institute of Technology

Coimbatore Institute of Technology is recognized as an AICTE-approved QIP Centre. In this role, the institute facilitates doctoral research programmes and conducts short-term training courses for faculty members from AICTE-approved institutions across the country. These initiatives contribute to the enhancement of academic standards and research culture in engineering education. 

Doctoral Programmes Offered Under QIP

Eligible faculty members may pursue Ph.D. programmes at Coimbatore Institute of Technology in the following disciplines : 

  • Civil Engineering 
  • Mechanical Engineering 
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering 
  • Chemical Engineering
