Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP)

Overview  

The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was launched by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Government of India, with assistance from the World Bank. The project is a long-term initiative aimed at scaling up and supporting ongoing efforts to improve the quality of technical education and enhance the existing capacities of institutions to become dynamic, demand-driven, quality-conscious, and efficient. 

Coimbatore Institute of Technology is a proud participant in this transformative journey, leveraging TEQIP funds to achieve academic excellence and provide world-class technical education. 

Key Objectives of TEQIP

  • Institutional Development : Strengthening the institution to produce high-quality engineers for better employability. 
  • Academic Excellence : Improving the learning outcomes of students and the teaching performance of faculty. 
  • Research & Innovation : Promoting post-graduate education and enhancing research, development, and innovation through collaborative projects. 
  • Faculty Productivity : Encouraging faculty to undergo pedagogical training and participate in advanced professional development programs. 
  • Industry-Academia Collaboration : Enhancing the interaction between the institute and the industrial sector to align the curriculum with market needs. 

Major Activities & Initiatives at CIT

Under the TEQIP umbrella, the institute focuses on several critical areas of growth : 

1. Infrastructure and Equipment Upgradation

Modernizing laboratories and classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment and software to ensure students are trained on the latest technologies used in the industry.

2. Faculty and Staff Development

  • Organizing and attending Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs). 
  • Sponsoring faculty for national and international conferences. 
  • Conducting training sessions on modern pedagogical tools and "Digital Learning" methodologies. 

3. Student Support & Equity Action Plan

  • Providing bridge courses for first-year students to ease the transition into engineering. 
  • Offering remedial coaching for students requiring extra academic assistance. 
  • Conducting workshops on "Soft Skills" and "Employability Enhancement" to prepare students for campus recruitment.

4. Research and Development

  • Allocating grants for research projects initiated by faculty and PG students. 
  • Establishing Centres of Excellence in emerging technology areas. 
  • Facilitating the filing of patents and publication of papers in high-impact international journals.
