B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Programme

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have emerged as transformative forces shaping nearly every sector of modern life. In response to this rapid technological evolution, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science was established at CIT Coimbatore in June 2021. The department is driven by a strong commitment to innovation, applied research, and the development of intelligent technologies that address real-world challenges. Emphasizing practical relevance, the department actively connects academic learning with industry practice through multidisciplinary projects, research collaborations, and strong industry partnerships.

Professor & Head of the Department

Dr. Valliappan Raman

PhD

Dr. Valliappan Raman is a Professor and Head of the Department of AI and DS at Coimbatore Institute of Technology. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak. His research interests lie in the area of artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and pattern recognition specialized in medical imaging, ranging from theory to design to implementation. He also collaborated actively with international researchers in several other disciplines of computer science, particularly for AI in Healthcare domain. He has authored and co-authored many technical papers in journals and conferences.

He has won various research grants and industry funding on the projects related to computer aided diagnosis systems and digital healthcare applications. He has served on many international conferences and workshop program committees and was part of the technical review team in IEEE, Springer and Elsevier Journals. He holds the professional membership of Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chartered Engineer (UK), International Professional Engineer (UK), Senior Member IEEE, Institute of Engineers India, Australia Computer Society, and Malaysia Board of Technologist.

Prior to joining CIT, he worked as a Deputy Head, School of Information Communication and Technology at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Malaysia.

Scheduled on March 6 & 7, 2026, at CIT, Coimbatore, the fest serves as a dynamic platform where innovation meets imagination. INTELLINA’26 brings together aspiring engineers and tech enthusiasts from across the country to compete, collaborate, and showcase their talents through a diverse range of technical and non-technical events. With hackathons, coding challenges, paper presentations, design contests, AI-driven special rounds, and team-based competitions, the fest encourages creativity, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. Backed by a strong academic legacy and industry-oriented learning culture, INTELLINA’26 promises an energetic two-day experience, celebrating intelligence, emerging technologies, and the spirit of young innovators.

SHE INTELLIGENCE 2026, in association with the Women Empowerment Cell, IEEE, IIC, and IEI, as part of the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, to be held on March 11, 2026. This event is dedicated to honouring and celebrating the remarkable contributions of women in Artificial Intelligence and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, is organizing a one-day workshop on “AI Meets Medicine: Deep Learning for Healthcare Innovation” on 6 April 2026 from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM at M114 Lab. The workshop focuses on providing hands-on experience and practical insights into the application of deep learning techniques in the healthcare domain.
