Department of Information Technology
- The Department of Information Technology was established in 2001 with the objective of fostering innovation, technological advancement, and scientific exploration.
- The four-year B.Tech. programme in Information Technology is designed to develop skilled IT professionals who are capable of building interconnected digital solutions and contributing effectively to modern technology ecosystems.
- The curriculum emphasizes both hardware and software competencies, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to meet the demands of today’s dynamic industrial environment.
- The B.Tech. IT programme offered by the institute opens strong avenues for successful careers in employment as well as higher education. It delivers quality education through a carefully structured curriculum combined with hands-on and experiential learning approaches that align with current industry trends.
- Students are also introduced to the foundational concepts of various computer engineering disciplines, enabling them to apply information technology across diverse technological domains and develop sustainable solutions to real-world challenges within connected systems.
The department is committed to providing high-quality education, advanced research exposure, and modern computing infrastructure. Its graduates are highly valued by academic institutions and reputed multinational organizations such as D. E. Shaw, Microsoft, Yahoo, IBM, Amazon, Oracle, and others. To strengthen industry–academia collaboration, the department has entered into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading organizations including NASSCOM, Huawei, Microsoft, EMC², Robert Bosch, TCS, Oracle, SAP, and several startup companies such as iExempler, Maxbyte, Easy Design System Pvt. Ltd., and Red Hat. These partnerships aim to enhance practical learning and industry readiness. In recognition of academic excellence, TCS annually honors outstanding students from the department with “Best Student” and “Best Project” awards.
The department has also been actively involved in organizing national and international academic events. Notably, it hosted an international conference on Graph Algorithms, High Performance Implementations, and Applications in collaboration with Bergen University College, Norway, from 17–19 December 2014. It has further conducted several sponsored workshops and training programmes, including TEQIP-II and TEQIP-III initiatives and AICTE-supported quality improvement programmes focusing on Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, Internet of Things, and startup readiness. The department’s key research domains include Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Wireless Networks, Data Analytics, Image Processing, and Software Engineering.
