Academic background
Dr. S. Balamurugan is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), Coimbatore – 641 014, India, from 2004 onwards. He lectures in Applied Thermodynamics, Thermal Engineering, Heat and Mass Transfer, Gas Dynamics and Jet Propulsion, and Turbo Machinery (Elective) for the undergraduate program. He also handles postgraduate subjects including Design and Optimization of Thermal Equipments, Solar Energy Utilization, and Turbo Machinery. He guides both UG and PG student projects. During his master’s degree, he focused on the area of simulation and optimization. He completed his Ph.D. program at Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore. His research work focused on “Thermal cycle analysis of PTA hard facing using TiC on IS 2062 base metal,” involving both simulation and experimental studies.
He is a life member of the Indian Society for Heat and Mass Transfer and the Internal Combustion Engineers. Prior to starting his research, S. Balamurugan worked as a Junior Engineer at P.S.G. Industrial Institute from March 1993 to March 2001. He joined CIT as a Lecturer in June 2004 and was later redesignated as an Assistant Professor. He completed his Master’s degree in Heat Power Engineering with First Class and distinction from CIT, his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with First Class and distinction from CIT, and obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with First Class from K.S. Rangasamy Polytechnic, Tiruchengode, in April 1992.
