Academic background
Dr. S. Agilan joined Coimbatore Institute of Technology in the year 1995 and is at present working as a Professor in Department of Physics. After completing Ph.D., at Bharathiar University (Jan 2007), he has undergone Post-Doctoral Programme at “National Taiwan University – Taipei” during 2008-09. He has been awarded “Young Scientist” fellowship by TNSCST and carried out his research work at “Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore” during 2004. He has visited many research laboratories in 6 different countries. His research interest includes, Nano materials for Biological Applications, thin film solar cells, dye sensitized solar cells, quantum dot solar cells and perovskite solar cells. He has good number (more than 100) of publications in reputed journals coming under the publications of Elsevier, Springer etc. Under his research supervision and guidance, so far 10 candidates have completed their Ph.D., programme in different research applications of Nanomaterials. He has initiated the Indo – Norwegian collaboration at Coimbatore Institute of Technology during the year 2011 and now the collaboration has been strengthened and well established with Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and other universities of Norway. He has so far organized 4International Conferences in the area of nanomaterials. He has been the investigator in various research projects funded by AICTE, DST, CSIR, UGC and Research Council of Norway (RCN) to carry out research in the area of solar cells. He has organized 5 “Faculty Development Programme “for Engineering College Teachers, supported by UGC, AICTE and TEQIP. Presently he is the core member in the project of “Teaching Learning Centre” at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, funded by MHRD, Delhi. He is also acting as member in “Purchase Committee” for TEQIP funded procurements. He has been the investigator in two research projects “Advanced Nanomaterials for Clean Energy Applications” [(INCP2014/ No.10045) sanctioned amount 10,50,000 Norwegian Kroner-NOK)] and “Nanomaterials for Energy and Health applications with ICT as Enabling Technology” [(UTFORSK2016 / No.10051) sanctioned amount 20,00,000 Norwegian kroner -NOK) funded by Norwegian centre for International cooperation in Education (SIU).
